About Sales Management Jobs

One of the most high profile jobs in many companies is that position of sales manager.  A sales manager must be able to manage well and be willing to take on a lot of responsibility.  Anyone in a sales management position will be expected to manage a team of employees as well as provide support and motivation.

Any business who sales products or merchandise will most likely have positions for sales management jobs.  The sales department of any company is a major component of a business.  If sales goals are not met and the sales personnel aren’t on their toes, it’s likely to lead to failure of a business.

Sales are what keeps the doors open to any business.  Sales management jobs can generally be found in places such as:
  • Retail stores
  • Car lots
  • Vacation rentals
  • Warehouses
  • Banks
  • Restaurants
  • Tourist attractions
  • Shopping malls
  • Special event venues
  • Home improvement stores
  • Call centers
  • Telesales departments

The possibilities are endless when it comes to having choices in sales management jobs.  There are tons of places that have the need for sales personnel and management. Being able to provide support, motivation and results are three of the most important things a sales manager will need to be able to do.

One common mistake that sales companies make is to promote from within to a position in sales management.  They will sometimes promote a salesperson who has displayed their sales skills by consistently meeting or exceeding the sales goals set forth.  Sales management jobs require much more than being able to sale.  If someone is great at sales, it doesn’t necessarily mean they will also be a good candidate for sales management.

Good candidates for jobs in sales management will need the qualities that make them not only a good sales person, but they will also need the ability to manage.

As a sales manager, people find themselves managing many aspects of the sales within the company.  To be a good sales manager, you must be able to solve problems, motivate people and provide reports to those higher-up’s in the company that expect to see results.

Sales management jobs can be stressful positions in that a manager will have a great deal of responsibility for the entire sales department.  In addition to their daily job related tasks, a sales manager will need to help their sales team succeed.
You can expect to have sales meetings, training, and continued education opportunities in sales management jobs.

The pay scale for sales management jobs will vary.  Some will offer a decent compensation, benefits package and commission.  Many times it depends on the products or services you are selling and the size of the company.

Overall, sales management jobs are a pretty good position to be in, but a person must be able to work with their sales team in an effort to provide the success that is expected.  Meeting and exceeding those expectations are sure to keep you in a position of management where you may eventually advance to a position that pays better and inflicts less stress.

Tips for Starting a New Job

Once you land the job you have wanted or needed, it’s time to prepare yourself for your first day on the job.  Getting ready to start a new job can be kind of stressful.  Here are some basic tips to help you when you are starting a new job.

When you find out you have been hired by a company and given a start date, it’s time to get serious and do some preparations for your first day on the job.  Being prepared mentally, emotionally and physically will make your first day go much smoother than it would if you don’t take time to get it together before showing up for work.

First of all, you need to make sure you are mentally prepared.  You don’t need to spend hours on thinking what will be expected of you on the job, but you do need to be fully aware of the job related expectations when starting a new job.

Once you know and fully understand the expectations you can assess where you are in the mental preparation process.  Being mentally prepared is one of the most important steps you need to take before starting any new job.  The mental aspect of the entire process is where success begins.  If you are mentally prepared you are much more likely to experience the emotional and physical preparedness naturally.

Part of the physical preparedness could include you taking a little time off in between jobs.  If you go right from your old job into the new job, it can be much more tiring for you.  Taking a few days off will allow your mind and body to relax.  Sometimes leaving your old co-workers behind can be an emotional experience.  You may even need time to readjust while you cope with some of the sadness you may feel.

Before starting a new job, you want to make sure you take a little time to research your new employer.  Learn everything you can learn about them.  If they have a website, that’s sometimes a great place to find a great deal of information about them.  You may even want to ask your friends and family if they know anyone that works for your new employer.  Sometimes it is helpful to know someone that is already on the inside.

Make sure you are well rested before starting a new job.  Taking time off in between jobs can help, but you still need to make sure you are giving your body the rest it needs.  Adjust your bed time and wake up time accordingly.  It doesn’t hurt to sleep in some, but you don’t want to get in the habit of sleeping late if you are working a job that requires you get up early.

A great way to reduce some stress when starting a new job is to plan your wardrobe in advance.  Do this for at least the first week.  Decide what you are going to wear each day for the first full work week.  If you can manage, it wouldn’t hurt to plan for 2 full weeks ahead.  This will give you less to deal with when trying to get out the door to work.

You definitely don’t want to be late when you are starting a new job.  Plan your travel route accordingly.  Maybe take a drive to the job site and back home utilizing a couple of different routes.  Think about what traffic is going to be like during your commute times.  Do you know alternative ways to get to your job?  Leave early rather than late.  It’s always best to arrive a little early than it is to be one minute late when starting a new job.

Being fully prepared should create much less stress for you.

About Mental Health Jobs

The number of people employed in mental health jobs is growing with each year that passes.  It is projected that the growth will continue in mental health employment.  As more mental health issues come to the surface, there will be more people seeking help from mental health professionals.

There are different types of mental health jobs for those who are qualified.  Probably the most common position in mental health employment would be a counselor.  Mental Health Counselors are those individuals that have received proper education in order to allow them to provide therapeutic mental services for patients and clients.  They generally offer therapy for mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders, substance abuse and many other mental health illnesses.  A Mental Health Counselor will generally be required to have a master’s degree and be licensed by the state in which they are employed.

Another common position found in mental health is that of substance abuse or counselors for those who have behavior disorders.  Much like the mental health counselor, these individuals will be providing therapeutic treatment for drug or alcohol offenders that are in the legal system.  Drug addiction and alcoholism are both mental health disorders.

The counselors that work with these people should be able to provide supportive and therapeutic services for the individuals, groups and sometimes the entire family that is involved.  Substance abuse seems to be taking the nation by storm but it also appears that many more people are beginning to willingly seek assistance.  This can sometimes be due to the legal system and their involvement.  Sometimes court systems will opt to send a substance abuse offender to a treatment program instead of sentencing them to jail.

Aside from the types of mental health counselors, there are other types of mental health jobs that are common.

A psychiatrist is a physician that is educated and licensed as well as highly trained.  These individuals are doctors of psychiatry medicine and they have the necessary qualifications to write prescriptions for medication, admit people to a hospital and are also certified to use psychotherapy or psychoanalysis for treatment methods.  The psychiatrist has a much higher pay scale and must have a college degree.  Many mental health facilities, hospitals and long term care facilities employee psychiatrists.

Psychiatrists are the only doctors in the mental health related fields.  Another type of doctor is a psychologist.  A psychologist must possess a college degree and licensure.  They are many times employed by mental health facilities or possibly even industrial organizations.  They put their clinical skills to use in formulating a plan of treatment for mental health patients.  For those employed in industrial organizations they can be the ones who give specific tests to those candidates that may be looking for a job.  Some workplaces require that a psychology test be taken and passed in order to be eligible for employment.

Positions in mental health can also include being a social or human services assistant.  These mental health personnel may work in places like group homes or elderly home settings.  They generally provide social work or mental health services under the direction of nurses, doctors, or other social workers.

These are just some examples of mental health jobs that are common and open positions for these jobs are continually on the rise.  For reference purposes, here are further examples of mental health jobs:

  • Case manager
  • Case management aide
  • Therapist
  • Liaison
  • Client advocate
  • Intake analyst
  • Mental health nurse
  • Mental health aide

Many different jobs are required in different settings where mental health care is given.

Finding a Job in a Bad Economy

Bad economic conditions have a negative impact on individuals and businesses in many different ways.  As the economy enters a pitfall, jobs become more difficult to come by.  Less jobs openings are found and the turnover in most fields is almost nonexistent.  People hold on to their job whether they are truly happy or not.

If you are one of the lucky ones who has never had the desire to run, not walk away from their job then you just happen to be one lucky individual.  Today’s economy is teaching many of us some very valuable lessons when it comes to job appreciation.  It doesn’t matter if a person loves or hates their job, now is not the time to quit unless you have secured another job.

That’s another issue, being able to find another job. Finding a job in this bad economy can seem almost impossible, but some lucky people manage to do so regardless.  Finding an employer that is hiring may not be as simple as checking the help wanted ads nowadays.  Things have changed, times are tough and individuals and businesses are suffering financially.

Some people are winners when it comes to job hunting.  What makes them more special than the rest of the unemployed members of society that have been looking for months?  Let’s take a closer look at the successful job hunter and what makes them shine.  One thing is the fact that they are willing to step outside of their comfort zone.  This can mean they are applying for jobs that they normally don’t do.  Maybe they were use to managing a retail store but lack of management positions leads them to apply for other jobs in retail.  Maybe its lower pay, maybe the hours are less flexible but they are smart enough to realize that landing a job is better than not having one at all.

Another thing that makes these job hunters successful is the fact that they make their strengths and achievements shine.  Their competent and skilled and they know it.  This all falls back to the old adage that business is business.  A simple step or two outside what is normally their comfort zone can provide them with the income they need for the time being and who knows; there could be a chance for advancement, right?  At the time, that may not even be on the successful job hunters mind.  Most people that are hunting a job just want the work.

Our society use to be one that was full of employed individuals.  That has changed drastically because it is now full of unemployed individuals who have multiple skills to offer an employer in just about any position.  Some people refuse to look for a job that isn’t something they have done before.  This doesn’t mean they aren’t qualified, it just means they may not realize their full potential.

Here are some basic tips you need to remember when you are trying to find a job in a bad economy:

  • Be willing to make a deal in order to land a job
  • Be ready to show a potential employer why you are the one for the job
  • Think about independent contractor work
  • Create new learning experiences
  • Let your leadership abilities shine

While you may not have huge expectations of yourself, it’s time to change that.  Anyone that is successful at job hunting must first believe in themselves before they can believe in the opportunity.  That’s where it all begins.  Take it and run with it.

About Factory Jobs

Jobs in a factory can consist of being employed by an industry that manufactures products.  There is a great deal of expertise that goes into product manufacturing.  Just about every product you see on the shelf in stores was made in a factory.  Factory jobs may be plentiful but many of the jobs require long hours, hard work and dedication.

The manufacture of products takes place in a number of steps.  From the beginning to the end of product making, there is someone that works manually or runs machinery in order to put products on the market for consumers to purchase.

Working in a factory can include jobs where cars, foods, electronics and other items are made.  In general, the jobs within a factory are broken down into specific categories. There will be factory jobs beginning with the actual making of the product, certain parts of a product, inspection of the products made and packaging.  Some other factory jobs are even more complex such as those related to car manufacturing.

Sometimes a factory product can turn out to be defective.  These are generally returned to the appropriate department within the factory that can replace components or rebuild it to meet certain codes or standards.

When a product is first developed, the rest of the manufacturing process will go in stages.  Factory jobs can require that you handle a variety of materials.  Some of those materials could things such as wood, plastic or metal.  Most often there will be special training that you will have to undergo that will give you the skills and knowledge you need in order to be successful on the job.

Although most factory jobs are categorized as “non-skilled labor,” there are some positions within a factory that require specific skills.  Some of those positions in a factory would be things like:

  • Forklift operator
  • Heavy equipment operator
  • Personnel or human resources
  • Management
  • Industrial nurse

Those are just some examples of positions in a factory that require additional training, certifications or degrees.

The pay scale will vary from one factory to another.  Some wages in factory jobs are going to be on the minimum scale. Some of the larger corporations such as car manufacturing fields are going to have a much higher pay scale than a retail clothing manufacturing business.

Job related duties will vary from one title to another.  Some of the duties may be simple and some may be more difficult.  Most factory related jobs will also require that the workers meet a certain manufacturing quota.  This either determined on a daily basis or within a certain amount of time.  They generally want to see a certain amount of product output on a routine basis.

While factory jobs may not be the highest paying job, the manufacturing field provides a great deal of jobs for many people in the United States and other countries.

About Civil Jobs

Civil jobs are those in which employment is through the Local, State or Federal agencies.  When someone is employed in a civil service position it means they work for one of those government agencies.  Different types of civil service jobs are available.

Jobs through local, state or federal agencies can be civil service positions.  These jobs are available in many different departments within the government agencies.  Some examples of civil service jobs are:

State Highway Patrol Officer – They generally perform a variety of tasks including keeping the highways safe.  Most state has their own Highway patrol agency that employs certified police officers.  Sometimes these officers may also perform security assignments for important officials.

Division of Motor Vehicles – Each state has their own DMV with multiple locations throughout the state.  The employees in the DMV will perform things such as issue drivers’ licenses; administer driving tests, process driver license renewals and motor vehicles checks.

United States Postal Service – Positions within the USPS such as customer service, mail carriers, and mail processing clerks are positions that are considered civil service positions.

Administrative Jobs – Any job within a government department that is considered an administrative position is also a civil service position.  These positions may include but are not limited to general administrative positions, human resources management, and officers in administration.

Just about any of the positions in local, state or federal agencies will require the candidate take a civil service exam.  These exams will differ based on the type of civil service job a person is applying for.  Exams for the job vacancies will be conducted by different government departments.

Government related jobs are generally very popular amongst those candidates who qualify.  With a government position, you will generally have a somewhat secure work environment as well as benefits such as retirement plans and health insurance.

The salaries in civil service jobs will vary dependent on the job title.  All of these jobs are considered public jobs and realistically the salary level is pretty competitive with other jobs.  Amongst all of the government agencies, there are many different positions required in order to keep the departments up and running.

Having a civil service job is beneficial to the employee but there are also some downfalls to such positions.  Sometimes as our government makes budget cutbacks and decreases the number of employees in specific departments.  This can mean that you could either be laid off or be transferred to another department.

It is also not uncommon for people to have a negative view of civil service workers.  Sometimes they are given a bad name because people seem to view them as unethical, lazy or too politically involved.

With both pro’s and con’s, the civil service jobs really are great positions to have for someone that is seeking longevity and a chance for moving up in their job.  Promotions are often given from within specific departments and if you can land a civil service job, you will most likely retain that job for a long time.

With benefits being harder to come by on traditional private sector jobs, there number of individuals seeking civil service jobs is continually growing.
